What my smile does mean is that I'm not giving up, and never will. It means that everyday I am going to get out of bed and give it my all, even when there isn't much to give. I get through each day one moment at a time, never quite sure what is coming next, but being able to smile makes things a little bit easier.
A smile is the best medicine for any hard situation. A smile eases the tension and warms the heart. When I walk into my sorority and receive smiles from my many sisters, I feel the strength of those strong women backing me every step of the way. You never know the power of a smile until you feel like you have nothing to smile about. So knowing I have fifty women who share my values who will lend me a smile when I'm feeling defeated, makes each day a little easier.
So next time you see someone, see beyond their smile and their appearance and get to know the true person, and lend them a smile when they are feeling down. Even though I don't have much to give, I can always lend you a smile from my not so normal life.
