A Letter to Those Struggling with IBD
Dear IBD fighter,
You are stronger than you know. You are fighting a disease that has little awareness and which is generally misunderstood. Don't ever stop fighting, the disease only wins if you stop fighting it! You can accomplish anything that you want to. It may be difficult and things may seem like they will never get better, but they will.
Each day is a little different, but having a good support system can make a world of difference. So find people in your life who will support you in your battle. Even when the days seem like they never will get better, someone who is supporting you and encouraging you can make a huge difference!
I've often felt like things were never going to get better and that my Crohns Disease had ruined my life. But when people ask me if I wish I didn't have Crohns, I realize that Crohns has made me who I am and that I wouldn't change that for the world. My disease has made me strong and ambitious, it has made me a fighter, and those qualities will serve me well in life!
My top three pieces of advice to anyone with IBD would be:
I've learned from experience that keeping it all inside doesn't help anything, in fact it usually makes things worse. Find people that you can talk to about your disease, pretending you don't have a disease doesn't make it go away. If you don't have anyone you can talk to, you can talk to me, I would love to talk to you or help anyone that I can by talking/sharing or just listening. But I know I am not the only person who would love to hear your story.
My parting words, are that "You are stronger then you know" and you can overcome this disease!
Sincerely,
Sarah Brocker
